A Lifetime of Service to Lake of Bays
Matt Young has spent his life living, working, and serving in the community he is proud to call home.
Raised in Lake of Bays, Matt has deep roots in the Township. For the past 20 years, he has served with the Lake of Bays Fire Department, where he currently serves as a Station Chief. His commitment to the community extends beyond his volunteer service. Matt and his family have chosen to make Lake of Bays their home, while he has built and operated two local businesses: SPY Communications, Algonquin Fiber; and he has recently taken over managing MP Planning & Associates, with much success.
Through his work, volunteer service, and community involvement, Matt has had the opportunity to work alongside residents, businesses, volunteers, and community organizations throughout Lake of Bays. These experiences have given him a firsthand understanding of both the challenges facing our community and the opportunities ahead.
Matt is running for Mayor because he believes Lake of Bays has an opportunity to build on its successes while bringing new energy, ideas, and leadership to Council.
He believes in a progressive, pragmatic approach to local government—one that looks at challenges as opportunities and focuses on practical solutions that put the people of Lake of Bays first. Matt recognizes the economic potential of our Township and supports responsible growth, while ensuring that the right guardrails are in place to protect the things that make Lake of Bays special: our lakes, shorelines, parks, natural environment, and the character of our communities.
Affordability, responsible development, economic opportunity, and protecting our environment are challenges that require thoughtful and balanced leadership. Matt believes Council must consider not only what growth can bring, but how that growth will affect local residents, businesses, infrastructure, and the environment.
At the heart of Matt’s approach is collaboration.
Throughout his 20 years in business and community service, Matt has worked with teams of hardworking, driven, and like-minded people. He knows that success comes from bringing people together, building trust, and creating a shared sense of purpose. As Mayor, his first priority would be to strengthen that collaborative culture—bringing residents, Council, staff, businesses, and community partners together to find solutions.
Matt would bring his local experience, strong work ethic, business knowledge, and understanding of the community to the Mayor’s office. He would work hard to represent Lake of Bays locally, while also advocating for the Township at the district and provincial levels to ensure our community’s interests are heard.
For Matt, running for Mayor is not simply the next step in his career. It is the optimum chapter in a lifetime of community service.
He believes deeply in Lake of Bays, understands the community because he lives and works here, and is committed to building on what has already been accomplished while preparing our Township for the future.
